Chugging Along!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Hey, already I have an audience, and everyone seems so supportive. Wow, this makes it a lot different than before, but I’ll try to keep it cool. Anyway, time for me to start.

As I’ve said in my first post, I was going to talk more about a Neurological condition called

“Synesthesia”. Now, you may think that this would be really boring, but I think that it’s so extraordinary. Seriously, we don’t even know very much about ourselves, and we’re going out and trying to explore the universe. All these amazing people are really just like us. But, that’s enough of an introduction, time to find out what I’m talking about. This artical is one I wrote for my Science Fair project, when I was quite young. Here it is;

‘Synesthesia’

The condition called synesthesia is a neurological occurrence in which two senses work at the same time, together. For example, a person with color-graphemic synesthesia may see a bright light when hearing a certain number. In one of the most common types of synesthesia, a synesthete will see a word as a certain color in their mind. Many people see different colors or hear different sounds depending on what type of synesthesia they have. It had been shown through studies that synesthetes almost never agree on what color they may see or their “reaction”. Some people can even experience three senses at once, but this is an extreme case. Scientists aren’t sure of the number of people with synesthesia, with estimates from 1 in 200 to 1 in 100,000. It is possible that many synesthetes go undiagnosed.

A person most likely to be a synesthete would be a woman, left handed, or someone with a synesthetic family member. Even though there has been written evidence on this condition for about 200 years, still not much is known about it. One reason for the slow progress is because scientists have been debating over the importance of the subject for years. Some think that there is no importance in going farther with research, while others are amazed and curious. Still, there has been recent progress and scientific research showing some characteristics, such as synesthetes have a special way of viewing different symbols.

One recent study done by the psychology section of the University of California (San Diego) had one test that showed synesthetes could point out a shape in a matrix of identically colored 5’s and 2’s. Although in the test below the numbers were colored the same, this picture shows what the image might look like to a synesthete.

The scientific consensus on this topic is this synesthesia is in fact a real condition for a small percentage of the human population.

And that is what makes it truly magical.

Well, I hope that sparked a little bit of interest into you, I’m Gaudyspuds, and tomorrow I’m going to have something about

Savant Syndrome, another interesting (I hope) condition. If you have the time, please comment and come back later!

Working On The Site

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Hey everyone, I didn’t think that the site would be this popular this quickly. Wow, thanks to everyone who’s read a post or two. I even have 3 comments already, in only 3 days. Now, I’m trying to work out a few things. Here’s what’s keeping me busy, after the post is up for the day.

  • There’s a problem with the calender system, Wordpress is saying that I posted only yesterday and today, when I started before then. Nothing big, maybe because Leap Year fooled it?
  • My regular website isn’t supporting my own HTML, so I might have to switch hosts. This wouldn’t be that bad, since there’s a 90 day guarantee, though converting all of my posts could be hard.
  • There’s no one that I really could fall back on if I don’t have the time to post something. I do have one friend who might be able to help, but the best thing would probably be for me to just have some back-up topics.

Well, as you can see, I have a lot to keep me busy, so I’ll keep on trying to keep you entertained!

Just A Quick Question

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Hey, wow, it’s my second post of the day. A new record. What I just wanted to ask quickly if the people viewing this like my writing style. I was told that my entries had too many “forced” jokes and was somewhat stupid at times. I know that at the time that I’m writing this, only 4 people have viewed my blog, but that’s how I would become more popular, by getting the stuff out that the people want. This isn’t my only style of writing, I can be more serious and… things. I want to do things that would interest everyone. I’m not trying to be hilarious, just entertaining. So, if you would have the time, please post your opinion about how I’m doing so far by writing a comment. I would like to hear what people think.

Hey everyone, I’ve already been flooded with 1 comment! Wow, it’s already becoming popular. I’ll try to add a little humor, since my last post with so serious. Grrr, I’m a… serious tiger…

So maybe you’re thinking that my life might just be all bland, just because I know more than you about computer technology than some. Well, that’s untrue! Gosh, how could you be so rude. I am deeply offended by that, how could you say such a thing? Let me tell you something, would you call Speed Racer stupid for talking to another bland villain… who looks the same as the rest? No, you wouldn’t think he was stupid for doing that, you would cheer for another episode. It’s the same with me, when I seem nice and mature, my life is wild and crazy. But, as my old, now nursing-home aged teachers used to say, “You kids better show, not tell, or I’ll haunt you from my grave.” Seriously, so let me try to show you, with words, as I normally would.

I do like to say that I am self-conscious. So, when puberty hit, I was hit with a creature growing on my face. In between my eyebrows. It did become pretty noticable, and after a year or so, I was finally able to get my hands on some… over-the-counter products. Oh yeah, scary.

Once I took it out of the bag, I knew it should do the trick. Man, this stuff was heavy duty, defiantly able to fix my extra hair problem. Larger than my palm, and stickier than a sticky dingleberry (something I heard one day when walking from school). Though, maybe it worked too well. It felt like ripping off tape from your little fuzz mustache (I also did shave off that the same day, just for the ladies.) At the most, I got about 50 hairs yanked off in 1 pull with that bad boy. I should enter that in “The Worlds Strongest Man” contest, I’d win undoubtedly.

Anyway, it was the aftermath that hurt the most. For at least a day, I felt a little burning “sensation” on my unibrow section. Then, it became bright red and cracked. Finally, after about a week, and after explaining what happened about 5 times, it became normal again, along with about 10 hairs spurting out.

Maybe this all happened because I used the body wax instead of the facial?

There, I proved it, my life isn’t all that boring. And I’ll tell you more, later. This is the Gaudyspuds Blog, saying good “5:28 Eve” everybody!
